1. Recreation

The infamous „Schneckenhof-Partys“ represent one of the high points of University life and are held in the palace buildings on a weekly basis. The University also hosts the „Schlossfest“ every year with many exciting acts and superb entertainment.

If you are looking to take part in a student initiative while you are here we have a number of different areas you can get into, such as politics, society, economy and social commitment. The student initiative VISUM helps foreign students to settle into student life at the Unviersity of Mannheim and organizes a range of events to enable exchange students and German students to meet one another. These include the legendary VISUM pub crawl, the VISUM Running Dinner and the VISUM Breakfast. VISUM also organizes international parties, visits to theatres and concerts as well as trips to cities such as Cologne, Vienna or Hamburg. Each semester the "Visum Buddy Programm" teams up German students with exchange students to help them settle into student life in Mannheim. "VISUM First Aid" offers plenty of help for all sorts of issues that exchange students have to deal with when they arrive in Mannheim, such as buying a bike or finding the cheapest phone and internet provider. You can also find out what is happening during the semester by having a look at the program on the website.

2. Accomodation

Living in student housing is a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world. If you would like to do so during your stay in Mannheim please apply for a room/shared room. You can also find accommodation at online room exchanges (e.g. wg-gesucht) or at the Studentenwerk (student services), which has private rooms on offer. Especially in the Fall semester when a lot of new students and exchange students are looking for accommodation it is very important that you start looking as early as possible.

3. Sport

The University of Mannheim offers its students extensive sports facilities and sports programs to cater to everybodies sporting needs. These include over 50 different disciplines and training facilities spread across the entire city of Mannheim, including its own fitness centre! You can find out more about doing sports at the University of Mannheim by taking a look at the current brochure of our Institute of Sport (unfortunately only available in German).
